A delegation of 26 vice chancellors from Indian universities met with their Spanish counterparts for the signing ceremony to encourage joint research projects and faculty and student exchange programs.
“On the first day of the visit, the delegates visited The Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Barcelona and exchanged ideas in collaboration with many Spanish Universities who were invited for the interaction.
“The one-to-one meetings between the universities from India and Spain was very fruitful,” said a statement by Dr. Pankaj Mittal, secretary general, AIU.
The event took place at the University of Valladolid, one of the oldest universities in Spain, during the delegation’s visit to the country between July 7 and July 11.
“The Mayor of Valladolid received the delegation at Valladolid. Many MoUs between the Indian and Spanish Universities are on the verge of signing,” added Mittal, calling the visit “very successful”.
The visit was organised by SEPIE, which serves as the national agency responsible for implementing the Erasmus+ program in Spain, and AIU.
Ambassador of India to Spain, Dinesh Patnaik, addressed a networking session of Indian and Spanish universities at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid on July 10 to celebrate the achievement between the two nations.

“New strides in educational partnership! Historic agreement signed between @CrueUniversidad and @AIUIndia for cooperation between universities of India and Spain. Will create new opportunities for Indian students!” said a statement by the Embassy of India in Spain on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Around 1,400 Indian students are estimated to be pursuing their higher education in Spain as of 2022, according to Ministry of External Affairs data.
The collaboration between Spain and India signals a growing relationship between India and EU countries, with many academics and students interested in pursuing research and education in the region.
