The capacity building for international officers program, developed under an MOU between the UK-based organisation and Maharashtra‘s Department of Higher and Technical Education, is aimed at advancing the internationalisation of higher education institutions across the state.
A cohort of 36 participants from 18 public and private universities in Maharashtra has been selected to participate in the workshop.
The program is designed to equip these institutions with the skills, tools, and knowledge required to foster global academic collaborations effectively.
It supports India’s National Education Policy 2020, which aims to make the country a global hub for higher education by encouraging cross-border partnerships and raising institutional excellence.
The workshop’s curriculum includes specialised modules focused on skill development, practical strategies and knowledge-sharing to enhance the capabilities of international officers.
These sessions aim to ensure impactful outcomes that align with the internationalisation goals of the participating universities.

“This programme is a significant step toward modernising Indian higher education. It aligns with NEP 2020 and Maharashtra’s vision to improve the quality of education while fostering global connections,” said Shri Vikas Chandra Rastogi, IAS, principal secretary for higher and technical education.

By providing international officers with the skills and expertise to enhance their institutions’ global engagement, we are supporting India’s goal of becoming a global education hub,” said Jain.
The British government-funded organisation has been working on various initiatives with states across India in recent years.
Recently, the British Council signed four MOUs with the Karnataka government in Southern India aimed at sending underprivileged students to the UK for immersive learning programs.
Moreover, the organisation also partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to promote economic innovation and cultural renaissance, encouraging young artists and entrepreneurs in the state.
