The University of Southampton’s India campus will be located at the International Tech Park in Gurgaon, a financial hub in the North Indian state of Haryana.

The new campus, which will be set up within 60 acres of land inside the Tech Park, is set to be established by April 2025, with the first intake of students starting in August 2025.

“We chose Gurgaon and the International Tech Park for our new campus because of the city’s position as a thriving hub for business, technology, and innovation in India,” said Andrew Atherton, vice-president, International and Engagement, University of Southampton

“The International Tech Park offers an ideal location, surrounded by cutting-edge industries and dynamic career opportunities, ensuring our students are immersed in a forward-thinking environment.”

The International Tech Park has a range of recreational amenities, including fitness centers, food halls, table tennis areas, and sports facilities such as basketball and tennis courts, with a cricket pitch currently under development.

Additionally, nearby attractions like golf courses, football fields, and equestrian centers are expected to contribute to a well-rounded student lifestyle.

The campus would have several benefits for students, including a student hub, social and collaboration areas, a library, private study spaces, IT labs, and training suites.

According to a statement by the institute, the India campus will also feature a “dedicated research space that is aimed at promoting academic and student collaboration”.

“The campus’s futuristic design will foster creativity and collaboration, with facilities that promote both academic excellence and student wellbeing,” stated Atherton.

“This environment will empower students to not only receive world-class education but also gain the practical skills and industry connections needed to excel in their careers.”

The campus in India, the first for a UK university, will follow the University of Southampton’s “triple helix model”, which aims to combine education, research, and industry collaboration.

Furthermore, the new campus will be IGBC LEED Platinum pre-certified, awarded to projects based on green measures during design.

Indian architectural firm Morphogenesis will design the campus, according to the campus release.

The campus will be the first UK university established under the University Grants Commission’s Regulations, 2023

The India campus will initially offer undergraduate programs in computer science, business management, economics, accounting, and finance, along with postgraduate programs in international management and finance.

The university plans to broaden its offerings each year by introducing new and innovative programs.

Oxford International will serve as the operational partner, leveraging its expertise to maintain the quality of education and employability students expect from UK institutions.
