The Lexis Korea Hongdae Campus will open in February 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institute’s continued nationwide expansion.
The latest campus adds to the provider’s Korea portfolio, with campuses already set up Gangnam and Busan.
The campus will offer a variety of courses, including standard and intensive Korean language programs, TOPIK preparation, and cultural activities with local Korean students.
The location of the latest campus was chosen as Hongdae is known for its youthful energy, live street performances, trendy shops, cutting-edge art and buzzing nightlife. Named after Hongik University, one of Korea’s top art universities, this district boasts a lively arts scene, music, fashion and entertainment.
The location offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Korea’s exciting youth culture, with an energetic atmosphere perfect for language learning, Lexis Korea said in a statement.
“The decision to open a campus in this iconic neighbourhood reflects Lexis Korea’s commitment to providing students with an authentic cultural experience alongside their language studies,” it added.
JeeHo Kim, managing director of Lexis Korea, shared his excitement about the new campus: “Hongdae is a unique part of Seoul that perfectly captures the modern spirit of Korean culture. It’s the ideal place for our students to enhance their language skills while fully immersing themselves in the vibrant lifestyle that makes Korea so special. We are thrilled to bring the Lexis Korea experience to this exciting district.”

The Lexis Korea Hongdae Campus will have 11 modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology, as well as comfortable study areas and communal spaces. The same accommodation options will be available in Hongdae as in the other campuses.
Kim emphasised the importance of offering students a well-rounded experience: “Our mission at Lexis Korea is to provide more than just language education. We want our students to truly experience Korea’s culture, make lifelong connections, and create unforgettable memories.
“By adding our new campus in Hongdae, Lexis Korea offers students the unique opportunity to explore the best locations and maximise their experience across South Korea in a single trip.”
A recent report highlighted Korea’s growing appeal as an education destination, especially among students from the US.
The authors of the report – Kyuseok Kim, IES Abroad Seoul’s centre director, and Edward Choi, an assistant professor at UIC – suggested a number of factors behind this phenomenon, including a global craze for Korean pop (K-pop) music and acclaimed television series such as Netflix’s Squid Game, which they said are “adding to Korea’s reputational cache”.
