This week, we spent five minutes with Diogo Jansen, product development specialist for Change Programs, the counselling arm of Brazil corporate travel firm Copastur. He tells The PIE about how he got introduced to the sector, the post-pandemic focus on quality and why Mandarin is the only choice for an instant language boost.
What do you like most about your job?
What I find most enjoyable is the diverse range of interactions with people from various cultures and backgrounds. It provides a unique opportunity to connect and learn from others, enriching my job experience and keeping each day dynamic and engaging. Embracing diversity fosters creativity and understanding in the workplace, ultimately offering a chance to collaborate and broaden perspectives, which I value greatly in my role.
What are your top 5 priorities?
Professionally, my foremost priority is ensuring that students experience the best options tailored to their individual needs and goals. This is essential considering that international education fosters personal and professional growth. Additionally, understanding and appreciating diverse cultures is crucial as we connect people from different backgrounds daily. Therefore, being available to talk with individuals from various walks of life is another top priority, as we continually learn from different perspectives. Being part of a team that shares similar values and work ethics is essential for me. Lastly, maintaining responsibility and ethical conduct throughout the process is fundamental.
Best work trip?
Attending ICEF Berlin 2013 stands out as my most significant work trip. It marked my introduction to an international event and expanded my professional horizons exponentially. Experiencing the scale, diversity, and possibilities within the industry was transformative.
Biggest challenge to your profession?
Adapting to the daily shifts in student and client behaviour presents the most significant challenge in my profession. It demands constant vigilance and flexibility to meet evolving needs and preferences. Staying attuned to these changes is essential for providing effective guidance and support. Navigating this dynamic landscape requires a proactive approach to anticipate and address emerging trends and concerns, ensuring continued relevance and success in the field.

What’s the most interesting trend you’ve observed in our industry recently?
Post-pandemic, the most intriguing trend is the heightened emphasis on quality. Students now prioritise advisors, support systems, and academic standards more than ever before. This shift highlights the crucial role of agencies in providing personalised guidance and support, reflecting a deeper appreciation of their value.
If you could learn any language instantly, which one would it be, and why?
I would choose Mandarin. Mastering Mandarin would not only enrich me culturally but also provide access to a vast and influential market within the industry. Proficiency in this language would facilitate deeper connections and insights into Chinese culture and business practices, opening doors to enhanced collaboration and opportunities in this significant global market.

I recommend “The Art of War.” This book offers valuable insights into sales strategies and effective teamwork.
